Since becoming a UUA Welcoming Congregation in 2012, one focus of UUCR’s social justice work has been supporting the Chestertown Chapter of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.)  We lead one of over 350 local chapters of this international organization.  See https://www.pflag.org and https://pflagchestertown.blogspot.com for current details about the larger organization and the local chapter.

PFLAG envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.  We accomplish this vision by meeting people where they are and collaborating with others within our church, local area and the three surrounding rural counties of our Chapter’s assigned geographic area.

PFLAG activities focus on support for families, allies and people who are LGBTQ. Education for ourselves and others about the unique issues and challenges facing people who are LGBTQ, as well as, addressing various advocacy needs in our communities to change attitudes and create policies and laws moving to achieve full equality.

As a non-profit organization separate from UUCR, PFLAG is supported by many UUCR members and friends, and currently utilizes the UUCR building for meetings and gatherings, mailing address and housing of our LGBTQ resource center.  Everyone is always welcome to participate and support PFLAG Chestertown.
