As we begin Disability History Month, let’s reflect on the offering of author and former Labor Secretary Robert B. Reich, who has come to believe that “The central struggle of civilization [is] fighting bullies—standing up against brutality.” His story is grounded in his own lived experiences as a child with dwarfism in the 1960s, and he has been warning of the dangers of inequity for decades. He is also infuriatingly compassionate. Let’s explore steadfastly holding onto our values and living with compassion while engaging in the central struggle of civilization.
